Can you name the man in BJP radio ads?

Two other radio jingles are on good governance, reduced fuel and vegetable prices.

BJP leaders believe that leaving Kejriwal unnamed and instead highlighting “what he did to his voters” would do enough damage. BJP leaders believe that leaving Kejriwal unnamed and instead highlighting “what he did to his voters” would do enough damage.

Pre-elections noise is on the rise in Delhi, at least on the city’s radio waves. First it was the Aam Aadmi Party that aired and then pulled out ads that riled Delhi Police. And now it is the BJP with radio jingles that aims to unsettle AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal.

Even though the radio advertisements do not name the AAP chief, they allude to him as the one who is “dhokha and ansu de kar bhag jane wala” (the one who tricked his voters and left them in tears).

BJP leaders believe that leaving Kejriwal unnamed and instead highlighting “what he did to his voters” would do enough damage.

One radio advertisement features a woman criticising the AAP for leaving its voters in the lurch. The jingle, which is in Hindi, says, “It was my fault. He called himself an aam aadmi (common man) and cheated us. He made tall promises, claimed that he will provide free water, but only gave us tears… We will take our revenge for this irresponsibility. We will not vote for this man who does not do any work. To change Delhi with full majority, let’s walk with Modi.”

Festive offer

The second jingle calls Kejriwal a greedy man, who left his supporters for personal ambition. Alluding to the AAP government’s resignation after 49 days, the jingle warns that if “he” can do it once, he can do it again.

“He promised us the moon and ran away. Think about it: if he can break the faith of people for his own sake, can’t he do the same again?

After rejecting a government flat, he occupied one. After rejecting a car, he got a car. This man could not fulfill his promises. Do you think he will stick to his beliefs?” another advertisement says.

The AAP dismissed these allegations and attacked the BJP for indulging in low-brow politics. “The BJP has no direction in Delhi. It does not have any agenda,” Kejriwal said.

AAP spokesperson Atishi Marlena said, “Their agenda is to talk about the AAP at a time when we are talking about colleges for the youth, education loans, marshals in DTC buses and women’s security. This typifies the state of elections in Delhi. It is not very difficult for the people of Delhi to decide whom they will vote for.”

Two other radio jingles are on good governance, reduced fuel and vegetable prices. In one such ad, a man at a petrol pump says,
“If you fill petrol worth Rs 100 in your scooter, it lasts for a week, now it will last for a 10 days…”, ending with the BJP slogan “Abki baar Modi sarkaar”.

A lyrical war: what the jingles say

# Galti meri hi thi. Aam aadmi keh kar dhokha de diya. Bade bade vaade par ansu dekar chala gaya.. ghar ke kaam chod kar uske liye meeting karwayi, par badle mein kya mila. Inke apne aadmi tak chale gaye, gair zimmedari ka badla lenge ab is naakam admi ko vote na denge, purn bahumat se badle dilli ki halat, chalo chale Modi ke saath

# “Kuch na tha woh. Chaar din ki chandni dikha kar bhaag gaya. Tum khud socho jo apne lalach ke liye janta ka vishwas tod sakta hai woh dubara kya aisa nahi kar sakta? Sarkari bangla thukrane ke baad bangla le liya.. gaadi thukrane ke baad gadi le li. Jo apne vaadon par na tika woh apne vishwas pe kya khaakh tikega?
