Kalam to visit Colvin’s on Durbar Day

Former president APJ Abdul Kalam will be present when the historic Colvin Taluqdars’ College celebrates its 125th Durbar Day, the annual sports day and Old Boys’ meet on Tuesday. To commemorate the 125th year of the college’s establishment, Kalam would release 125 plaques on which an image of the college building is embossed

Lucknow: Former president APJ Abdul Kalam will be present when the historic Colvin Taluqdars’ College celebrates its 125th Durbar Day, the annual sports day and Old Boys’ meet on Tuesday. To commemorate the 125th year of the college’s establishment, Kalam would release 125 plaques on which an image of the college building is embossed.
Over 4,000 prominent people, parents and alumni have been invited for the event.
Game shows of ‘past versus present’ students will also be held. Besides march past, students will present PT display, horse-riding and also take part in various sports activities. The major attraction will be the ‘tug of war’ between the alumni and the current students. This will be followed by band display and prize distribution ceremony. “We want our chief guest to hand over the awards to winners of different events like debates, dramatics, and sports,” college manager Raja Bahadur Mayankeshwar Saran Singh said.
Another draw will be the three-legged race of the Old Boys. Senior students will take part in 100 metres race, and there will also be a veteran’s race.
Colvin principal AS Bedi said the celebrations will provide an opportunity for the alumni to walk down the memory lane and for the younger generation to draw inspiration from the alumni. On the occasion, the college has revived its college newspaper Colvin News after three decades. The college has also gone back to its old logo which was used before 1936.
Colving Taluqdars’ College holds to its credit a long list of illustrious alumni including five sitting judges of Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court.
