The organisers of the Giro d’Italia have set up a new end-of-season race, the Abu Dhabi Tour.
RCS Sport announced on Monday that the four-day event will be held for the first time from October 8-11 next year.
It is the company’s second race in the Middle East, having staged the Dubai Tour for the first time this February. They will co-organise it with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
The Abu Dhabi Tour will be given UCI 2.1 status, which is the third tier of professional cycling races.
Aref Hamad Al Awani, general secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said: “We are proud to host and organise the Abu Dhabi Tour, which will show to the entire world the most prominent landmarks of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and will bring additional value to the world of cycle racing.”
