Soon, buy your local train tickets via app

The Mumbai suburban railway will now get an official Android app for ticketing. The ambitious mobile ticketing project of Indian Railways will be kicked off from Dadar station by Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Friday.

The app, which will have a wallet, can be downloaded to book local train tickets for the same day.

“Just put in the names of stations from your mobile phone and you will get a One-Time Password. Once you do this, you will have to go to the nearest station and type-in the OTP and the mobile number onto the ATVM machine at the station, which will include this facility. You will then get a printout of the ticket,” a senior official said.

“The pilot project will first start at Dadar suburban station and machines at other stations along CR and WR will be covered in batches of five. It will soon cover the entire suburban stations,” he said.

“In fact, tickets could be bought for not just Mumbai suburban system, but for outstation rains as well, but only for unreserved classes,” the official added.
