Charlottetown ReStore hit by break and enter

The Habitat for Humanity "ReStore" in Charlottetown was the target of a break and enter over the weekend.

The store accepts donations of overstocked, discontinued or gently used home renovation supplies from contractors and individuals. Those items are then sold to raise money for Habitat for Humanity P.E.I.

The manager of the store, Mario Zambonin, said staff arrived Monday morning at work and noticed a panel of window glass had been smashed and money was missing. He would not reveal how much money was taken, but said it was a lot.

"It`s going to set us back quite a bit," said Zambonin. "We have a core of about 40 to 45 volunteers that work here at the ReStore and I can honestly say that most of them are going to be very upset that somebody would do something like this to a non-profit."

"Like any other non-profit, we`re all here trying to help people that need help and they are all going to feel like they've all been kicked in the head."

Zambonin said the store video reveals the break and enter happened early Sunday evening.

He said the security video shows one person entering the store.

Police are investigating.
