Shift match to Ahmedabad to have a full game:Gambhir to DDCA

New Delhi

Worried about the prevailing weather conditions that robbed close to 55 overs of playing time in the past two days, Delhi captain Gautam Gambhir has requested DDCA to shift the next Ranji Trophy cricket match against Gujarat to Ahmedabad in his bid to have a full game.

“Gautam Gambhir has written a letter to DDCA urging that the next home game against Gujarat scheduled to be held at the Feroz Shah Kotla on December 28 be shifted due to bad weather conditions. Gautam has apparently said that he has no problems playing an away match at Ahmedabad instead of a home game,” DDCA vice-president and association in-charge Chetan Chauhan told PTI today.

Chauhan also said that he has had a telephonic conversation with BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel and GM (Game Development) Ratnakar Shetty.

“I have spoken to Prof Shetty and Sanjay in this regard.

They were both very understanding and said that they would inform us soon. More than result, we want that a full game of cricket happens. At this time in North India, with unseasonal rain and foggy conditions, it’s difficult to have result-oriented matches. We don’t mind playing in Ahmedabad as long as we have a full game,” Chauhan explained.

Gambhir’s love-hate relationship with nature of Feroz Shah Kotla strip is well-known as it was on his insistence that first match of the season was played at the pacer-friendly Roshanara Club ground.

But this time it is the Delhi weather and not the Kotla track, that is putting spanner in his strategy.
