The Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma starrer ‘PK’ might have failed live up to expectations as per the opening day business is concerned, but the film more than made up for this ‘shortcoming’ by amassing Rs 30.34 crore on the Day 2 and a humongous Rs 38.24 crore in box office collections on Day 3 (Sunday).
With this, Aamir Khan broke the all-time Day 3 record set by ‘Dhoom 3’ (Rs 38.03 crore). This year’s biggest opener Shah Rukh Khan ‘Happy New Year’ made Rs 31.06 crore on the first Sunday while 2014’s biggest grosser Salman Khan-starrer ‘Kick’ garnered Rs 30.18 crore.
Though PK has failed to enter the Rs 100 crore club in three days, a record achieved by only ‘Dhoom 3’ and ‘HNY’, it will definitely reach the coveted mark on Day 4 to join the rank of Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Krrish 3’ and SRK’s ‘Chennai Express’.
Now, the record to look forward is the Week 1 collections. Will ‘PK’ be able to beat ‘Dhoom 3’ record again?
Amir Khan’s Rs 500 crore + hit movie, which released during the festive season of Christmas last year, collected Rs 188.99 crore in the first week, holds the top spot. This is followed by Salman Khan’s Eid release of this year, Kick, which has collected Rs. 164.09 crore. One the other hand, Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘HNY’ and ‘Chennai Express’, which also released during Eid, witnessed a much lower growth in comparison, collecting Rs 157.57 crore and Rs. 156.7 crore respectively.
