2015 BMW S1000XR Prices Announced, More Affordable than Ducati Multistrada

BMW Motorrad has apparently decided on the pricing of their all-new adventure-sport S1000XR machine and on the various optional accessories and technology packages which will be made available once the bike reaches the US dealerships. So far the official prices have not been listed on the US version of BMW’s website, but it looks like this will happen quite soon.

The European price, which is €15,200 base version, is coherent with what US sources mention for the stateside price tag. The S1000XR is said to reach the US dealerships with a $16,350 price in base trim, with some extra $2,400 needed if you want all the bells and whistles.

In its base-level trim, the 2015 BMW S1000XR is delivered with automatic stability control (ASC) and dual riding modes, Road and Rain. The ABS has been a standard feature on BMW motorcycles for a long time so it’s only natural it was on the house.

A base trim plus 4 packages

The 2015 S1000XR arrives in no less than 5 flavors, with one being of course, the base trim, with the lowest price. BMW offers 4 extra packages Touring, Dynamic, Premium and Standard. For starters, we should say that the Premium is the sum of the Touring and Dynamic trims, with some of the features overlapping. Too bad the price is the direct sum of the two, also, with no discount currently announced for getting two extras…

The Touring trim introduces Dynamic ESA suspension, heated grips, a center stand, luggage rack, the cruise control feature, and saddle bag mounts. The bike will also be readied for GPS installation, but it looks like you’ll have to get BMW’s navigation hardware. In the US, the Touring Package needs extra $1,400 from your budget.

If semi-active suspensions are your thing, you can choose the Dynamic Package. For $1,000 it will endow your S1000XR with Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), gear shift assist pro, two additional riding modes, and cruise control. For those who would not go Premium but who still want some extras, the Standard Package brings heated grips, GPS preparation, cruise control, and saddle bag mounts.

A fully-loaded S1000XR is cheaper than a base-version Ducati Multistrada 1200 and this is a strong selling point for the Germans. The Multistrada 1200 is regarded by most as the main rival of the S1000XR, even though many more models are expected to join the quickly-expanding segment.

According to A&R, the base price for the Ducati Multistrada 1200 is $17,695 in the US, making the choice between going either German or Italian even harder. Both brands have very loyal fans who are often willing to overlook spending several thousands of bucks only to get to ride the bike they love. Still, it will be really interesting to watch how the S1000XR-Multistrada 1200 “war” will look like in 2015.
