Beginning with the setting up of a rural dispensary in Chinnadagudihundi in Nanjangud taluk in 1984, the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM) established by a group of medical students led by R. Balasubramaniam today runs eight institutions and more than 50 projects across health, education, socio-economic empowerment, training, research and advocacy sectors across the State.
On the occasion of its completing 30 years, SVYM celebrated foundation day at Vivekenanda Institute of Leadership Development in the city on Sunday, which was attended by more than 700 persons including its employees, their families and well-wishers. Dr. Balasubramaniam, founder of SVYM, recollected the organisation’s first anniversary in Tumbunerale village and spoke about SVYM’s journey in the last 30 years. Dr. Balasubramiam said the SVYM had worked without compromising values and clarified that donor funds had been used only for planned projects and not for celebrations.
