The final league match of the tournament was set for a close finish with just one point difference between DY Patil SA (22 points) and Cricket Club of India (21 points). However, both teams failed to get a result in their final league match against New Hind Sporting Club and National Cricket Club respectively. They got one point from the drawn game. However, all is not lost for CCI as they have lodged an official complaint with the Mumbai Cricket Association after their penultimate match; the verdict for the same is awaited.

Yesterday, in their final league match against New Hind Sporting Club, DY Patil SA’s Iqbal Abdulla picked four wickets for 98 runs to restrict New Hind SC to 299 in the first innings. In reply, DY Patil SA ended the day with 163 for 3 with Subramanian D scoring 69 runs and Vinit Indulkar staying unbeaten on 31 in a drawn fixture.
Pravin Tambe, captain of DY Patil SA was delighted: “I am very happy with the way everybody performed in this tournament. If you look at our team, we didn’t have one standout performance. Everybody chipped in and this is a complete team effort.
Tambe lauded the ability of his team to perform well when key players were away on state duty. “I am really proud of the way we have competed in this tournament. A lot of our players were picked for the Mumbai under-23 team and the Ranji Trophy side, but the remaining players took up the responsibility well,” he said.
Former India pacer Abey Kuruvilla, the pillar of DY Patil SA, said: “It’s a great achievement for DY Patil SA. This is our first championship in the ‘A’ division. It’s very special. I’m very happy for the boys.”
Kuruvilla hailed his side’s consistent ways in a long-drawn tournament: “To win the title, you need to perform well consistently and I am really very happy that the boys played exceptional cricket to achieve their goal,” he said.
