Steelers too strong for Stingrays

Robert Dowd was on target for the Sheffield Steelers

The Sheffield Steelers continued their fine run of form in the Elite League with a 4-3 win over the Hull Stingrays on Sunday night.

Gerad Adams' men made it six wins in a row but had to battle against the team they had beaten at home on Saturday.

Colton Fretter, Mathieu Roy and Rob Dowd seemingly had the play-off champions cruising but Omar Pacha and Eric Galbraith closed the gap before Roy got his second and Carl Lauzon set up a tense finish.

The Braehead Clan remain two points behind the league-leading Steelers after a 4-1 win over the Dundee Stars, although the Yorkshire outfit have two games in hand.

Shane Lust gave the Stars the lead but Ryan Finnerty's troops hit back with goals from Matt Keith, Leigh Salters and a brace from Scott Pitt.

Defending champions Belfast Giants won their fourth game in a row as they overcame the Edinburgh Capitals 5-2 with Kevin Westgarth scoring a hat-trick and Evan Cheverie netting twice.

In the night's other games, the Nottingham Panthers dropped their third game in a row as they lost 5-2 to the Cardiff Devils while the Coventry Blaze were 6-4 winners over the Fife Flyers.
