District hospital to adopt global health tool

The district health department has asked the district hospital and other government health centres to follow the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), a health diagnostic tool, during the treatment of patients.

NOIDA: The district health department has asked the district hospital and other government health centres to follow the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), a health diagnostic tool, during the treatment of patients.
Internationally, ICD, maintained by world health organization, provides easy classification and presentation of mortality statistics. Officials said this will help keeping check on mortality due to diseases and taking steps to control them.
The district health department will start a training programme on Monday for physicians, nurses, researchers and health information managers to code the diseases as per ICD guidelines and enable the storage and retrieval of diagnostic information for clinical and quality purposes.
K K Bhaskar, assistant research officer, health department, said, "Health professionals will be trained to code diseases as per ICD. The health department will analyse the data and take appropriate measures to curb diseases."
Data is collected manually at present. It is difficult to classify mortality due to different diseases. ICD works on information stored digitally, which facilitates easy analysis. The training programme will be for government doctors and health professionals only. However, the heath department plans to reach out to private hospitals as well.
