Venkata Ramana, a lecturer working at the Government Polytechnic College, Nallapadu, in Guntur district, who was injured in an acid attack on Saturday, may lose his eyesight.

According to the police, who shifted him to a private eye hospital from the Government General Hospital (GGH) here on Sunday, Ramana eyes were damaged in the attack and there was a danger of him losing his eyesight.

The police further said that Ginjupalli Sowjanya, a student of Andhra University, who allegedly threw acid on Ramana, was also carrying a knife in her bag with an intention to kill him. The woman attacked Ramana in revenge for allegedly cheating her after promising to marry her.

Meanwhile, the Guntur rural police arrested Sowjanya and registered cases against her under 326 (A) of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act 2013. She would be produced before the court on Monday. More cases would be added if necessary after the initial investigation, DSP (South) K. Narasimha said.
