KOLKATA: The state government is likely to felicitate the players of
Atlético de Kolkata (ATK) for bringing the first
ISL trophy to the city. Chief minister
Mamata Banerjee will meet the owners and a few
ATK players at Nabanna on Monday.
“We have sought an appointment with the CM for thanking her for the co-operation extended by the state government,” said Harsh Neotia, co-owner of ATK.
Meanwhile, a day after the ISL victory, the ATK team management wasted little time and began chalking out strategies for the second season.
Utsav Parekh, one of the stakeholders of ATK, told TOI that the next year’s team will be “better than this year”.
“Our team will be definitely better next year. We shall give our best to improve the performance,” Parekh said. According to the ATK co-owner, the organizer — IMG, a Reliance Industries arm — will have a meeting with franchisee owners within a month to draw up a future strategy.
Parekh indicated that a lot of issues, including the flexibility of recruiting foreign players, could be discussed in the meeting.
