Tottenham Hotspur face an anxious wait to learn the damage sustained to Ryan Mason after the midfielder was replaced in the first half in the win over Burnley with an ankle injury.

The 23-year-old was replaced by Benjamin Stambouli 43 minutes into Spurs' 2-1 victory over the Clarets at White Hart Lane, after appearing to twist his ankle following a first-half challenge.

Mason was visibly in pain while he received treatment before being helped away from the pitch, and with four matches coming in the space of 11 days starting with the Boxing Day trip to Leicester City the youngster faces missing the Tottenham's entire festive schedule if the injury is proven serious.

"It was his ankle," Tottenham manager told Sky Sports. "It doesn't look too bad, we need to analyse it tomorrow."

Following the game at Leicester, Tottenham face Manchester United, Chelsea and Burnley in the third round of the FA Cup in the busiest period of the season but go into the intense run of games off the back of three successive wins.

Goals from Harry Kane and Erik Lamela – the Argentine's first in the Premier League – help thrust Mauricio Pochettino's side into the top six with victory over Burnley, after a disappointing start to the campaign.

"It's been a great six days, three games, three victories," said the manager. "It's been a very important week for us and I'm happy for the players and for our supporters.

"Burnley scored with their first shot and that's always difficult. They were a physical team, playing balls up to a strong striker, but we're fighting and we played well.

"It wasn't easy for us after three games in a week and it was important to show character. We never give up, we keep fighting and keep going. I think we played very well for long periods.

"I think in the end the result didn't reflect the performance because we deserved more of a gap in the scoreline. But in the end, three points is very important for us."
