Competitions: M. Venkataswamy, Principal of Government Pre-University College, Kolar, underlined the need for understanding economics on humanitarian grounds. Discipline is also necessary in the study of economics as it covers every sphere of life in modern times, he said.

He was inaugurating a taluk-level debate competition conducted for PU college students at the GPU College for Girls here recently.

Economics Study Centre, a forum of economics lecturers, has organised the competitions in all taluks of the district. Economics has a special place in the humanities subjects, Mr. Venkataswamy opined.

T. Chandrappa, president of the forum, spoke. Essay, elocution and debate competitions are being conducted in order to create interest and encourage the students to take up the study of economics seriously, he said.

An elocution contest on the topic “Role of Reserve Bank in development of India” was held at Government PU College in Srinivasapur. Prizes were distributed to the winners.
