The Delhi Police have arrested a 21-year-old first year B.Tech student from Rewa in Madhya Pradesh for harassing an IAS aspirant from Delhi by bombarding her with obscene messages and threatening to upload obscene but fabricated pictures of her online and on social networking site Facebook.

Police said Akuil Faraz Khan, who lives with his parents in Rewa's Indira Nagar, told the police during his interrogation that he had harassed more than 15 other girls using the same method.

Son of a police inspector, Khan used the True Caller app. He told the police that he would call a random number and, after finding out that it belongs to a girl with the help of this app, then start calling or messaging on the number to befriend the girl. This is the same method through which he had got the complainant's number and started harassing her.

The complainant is an IAS aspirant living in Lajpat Nagar's Amar Colony. Her father is a senior bureaucrat in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). After the accused repeatedly called on her mobile phone and flooded her with obscene messages, she approached the local police with her complaint.

"She told the police that this had been happening for the past fortnight. She said he even threatened her of dire consequences if she refused his proposal to become friends and said he would upload her fabricated obscene pictures on several social networking websites," a police officer said.

On the basis of her complaint, a case was immediately registered under Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), Section 506 (threatening) of the Indian Penal Code and 66 of the Information Technology Act at Amar Colony police station in South-East Delhi.

"Our surveillance, under the supervision of Inspector Arun Dev Nehra, revealed that the calls were being made from Rewa. The team also found that the SIM card was procured on the basis of a fake ID. A team was then sent to Rewa," the officer added.

The police traced the shop from where the accused had procured the SIM card. He told the police that the inspector's son had got it from him. "The accused was then arrested from his house and produced in a local court from where he was sent to Delhi on a transit remand," the officer added.

Khan also admitted that he had harassed the 15 girls in Delhi and MP using the same method.
