AHMEDABAD: The tallest surviving Gandhian, Narayan Desai, 89, was finally brought out of the ICU of a Surat hospital.
For 11 long days Narayanbhai was fighting for survival after he suffered a cerebral attack during his sleep in the wee hours on December 10 morning. Narayanbhai’s sons — Nachiketa and Aflatoon, and daughter Sanghamitra were attending to him on Saturday morning.
His son Aflatoon had recorded Bhajans sung at the ashram on his mobile phone which he used to play for Narayanbhai while he was in a state of coma.

On Saturday, Narayanbhai was seated on a wheelchair and taken around in the hospital premises. Many of the medical staff greeted him and wished him speedy recovery. Narayanbhai will be kept in hospital for some days till his condition is stable. His son Nachiketa posted pictures of Narayanbhai being taken around in the hospital. “Narayanbhai was taken around the hospital as part of the effort to bring him back to normalcy 11 days after he was struck by cerebral attack in his sleep. He has started hearing recorded Bhajans on mobile phone,” said Nachiketa.
