A Labour party member, husband to Labour deputy Ciara Conway, has avoided serious injury when his car spun out of control last night.

Gary Honer posted the attached picture of his wrecked car on Twitter following an incident in which "a fox came up and hit the bonnet and the window".

"By by car [sic] - hello bed rest for a few days ! I am a very lucky man !" Honer tweeted this evening.

"Be wary of foxes at night - that's what hit me."

Although the "great little car" spun out of control, Honer escaped with "just a few cuts and bruises".

Last Christmas, Honer and Conway tied the knot at the picturesque Lismore Castle in a spiritualist ceremony.

Ms Conway met her husband 13 years ago during their involvement in Labour Youth.
