Army bomb disposal respond to 'hazardous' marine flare

An Army bomb disposal team was deployed this morning following the discovery of a suspect device on Tory Island.

The Defence Forces recieved a request from the Coast Guard after a member of the public found a hazardous marine flare on the Donegal island.

An Air Corps AW139 Helicopter was deployed to transport the Army bomb disposal team to the scene.

The team arrived on scene at 11am and the device was rendered safe.

The device was made safe at the scene by means of a controlled explosion.

The scene was declared safe at 12.10 pm.
