Following the success of the recent live musicals on NBC, including last year's SOUND OF MUSIC LIVE and this year's PETER PAN LIVE, THE TODAY SHOW cast will try their hand at a live production.

Executive producer Don Nash announced at THE TODAY SHOW Christmas party that TODAY: THE MUSICAL, written by Kathy Lee Gifford, would air on the show on Dec. 29.

"It's going to be live, and it's going to be so much fun," says Gifford. The 18-minute musical featuring Today Show anchors and crew was tentatively titled "Not Today and Tomorrow's Not Looking Good Either" back in August when the team first announced that it was in the works.

It also guest stars Regis, who jokingly commented, "We're in trouble!"
