Veeru Rathore, 32, a resident of Gehukheda in Kolar locality, was arrested on charge of attempt to murder four months ago.
Later, he was sent to jail after he was produced in the court.
On Wednesday evening, he was admitted to Hamidia hospital by jail administration, where he died in night during treatment.
Talking to mediapersons, Rathore's relatives alleged the he was brutally beaten in jail. "When we met him last time he was complaining of pain. There were injuries below waist. When he was brought to hospital, he was bleeding. He fell unconscious before he could reveal name of those who had beaten him. Police and jail officials are trying to hush up the matter," alleged Mohan Rathore, Veeru's cousin.
