Fort Bend man gets 35 years for sexually assaulting girl

By Updated

A Kendleton man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a 3-year-old girl, authorities said Friday.

John Robert Coulter, 32, was indicted two years ago for aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony, according to a statement from the Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office.

Prosecutors said the mother of a girl he was baby-sitting found her daughter's shirt on backward and became suspicious, and that the girl indicated that Coulter had removed it following a sexual act.

"This case illustrates every parent's worst nightmare. Thankfully the child's mother noticed her daughter's clothing was awry and asked her about it," prosecutor Jill Stotts said. "It is beyond comprehension that an adult would seek sexual gratification from any child, especially a three -year- old."

State District Judge James H. Shoemake sentenced Coulter on Wednesday after a Fort Bend County jury convicted him. Coulter will not be eligible for parole.

Defense attorney James Bennett could not immediately be reached for comment.
