David Schwimmer will play lawyer Robert Kardashian in the FX miniseries, 'American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson.'

Friends' David Schwimmer is going to play a Kardashian: Robert, the lawyer and father of Kim, Khloe and Kourtney.

Schwimmer, an actor, director and co-founder of Lookingglass Theatre, is the latest casting addition to the upcoming FX miniseries, American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson.

In American Crime, he will play the late Kardashian, an attorney and confidant to murder defendant Simpson (Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr.), FX announced today. Sarah Paulson will play prosecutor Marcia Clark.

American Crime, based on Jeffrey Toobin's book, The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson, will look at Simpson's "trial of the century" from the lawyers' perspective, including behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering in court.

The miniseries follows the former football star's trial for the 1994 murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, which resulted in a not-guilty verdict.

American Crime explores "how a combination of prosecution overconfidence, defense shrewdness and the (Los Angeles Police Department's) history with the city's African-American community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt," an FX release says.

American Crime is designed as an anthology series, with potential future seasons focusing on other true crimes.

Executive producer Ryan Murphy, the man behind the hit FX anthology series, American Horror Story, will direct the first episode.

Production starts early next year in Los Angeles, where the killings and trial took place. No premiere date has been announced.
