Major General Douglas Nyikayaramba confers the rank of Brigadier-General on Colonel Lazarus Gutu in Harare yesterday

The Head of State and Government who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces President Mugabe yesterday promoted Colonel Lazarus Gutu to the rank of Brigadier-General, while eight Lieutenant Colonels were promoted to Colonels.President Mugabe also promoted 23 other officers from the rank of major to lieutenant colonel.

The promotions were done in terms of section 15 (1) (b) of the Defence Act (Chapter 11:02).

Major General Douglas Nyikayaramba conferred the new ranks on the eight colonels, while the 23 promoted lieutenant colonels received their badges from Brig-Gen Crispen Masuku, who both acted on behalf of President Mugabe.

The eight new Lieutenant Colonels are Mpulaeng Siziba, Evison Nyamangondo, Michael Mataruka, Panganatsiyo Kufa, Kenson Carlos Dube, Edward Mumho, Luke Muchemwa, and Israel Dube.

The 23 other officers are Jabulani Mulambo, Tinos Kurambwi, Thomas Kachingwe, Samson Murombo, Patrick Mhlanga, Muza Muza, Banabas Simbarashe Tera, Jabulani Mukonto, Gondai Mwagura, Munyaradzi Marimbindi, Passmore Taruodzera, Gladys Machinga, Godfrey Zimbangu, Chrispen Mhere Nduku, Christopher Mugwagwa, Jesmaire Munyengeri, Enock Chivhima, Onward Tokoda, Joshua Mabheka, Jones Matonda, Caroline Hunidzarira, Brighton Muchini and Hardwicke Matikiti.

Speaking after the conferment of the new ranks, Brig-Gen Masuku said those promoted should remain loyal to the army in discharging their duties.

“As you get promoted to this work you know you have worked so hard,” he said.

“You should remain loyal to the army regardless of the challenges we are facing. You should celebrate under a disciplined environment.”

Brig-Gen Masuku said the promotion of women to new ranks proved that the army was gender sensitive as per the requirements of the Constitution.
