CHANDIGARH: Police have recovered some of the dowry articles from the possession of Arjun Gill, the son of former DGP of Himachal. He was remanded in 14-day judicial custody on Friday. Sources in police said dowry articles included gold coins, rings, chain, among others. But most of the articles which the complainant said were given to the accused were not found.
The initial scrutiny of cell-phone of Gill, which will be sent for forensic examination to CFSL, Sector 36, established communication between the accused and the victim, and it contained some pictures of the two together. Police sources said they have not found any objectionable video-clip of the woman -- who lodged a case of attempt to rape and dowry harassment against Gill -- in the accused's cell-phone.
The victim is the daughter of a serving IGP of Punjab Police who is settled in Chandigarh.
Sub-inspector Eram Rizvi, the probe officer, told TOI, "The authenticity of pictures of accused and victim stored in the cell-phone of Gill will be probed. Though names of Gill's father, Ex-DGP Gurpreet Singh Gill, and his mother have also been mentioned in the FIR, we have not found any evidence against them." Gill was arrested after the dismissal of his bail application in apex court on December 17. Gill's bail application had also been rejected by Punjab and Haryana high court.
There were several allegations against the accused, like he started demanding dowry after the marriage date was fixed and a list was handed over to the complainant's parents in which six gold bracelets of three tolas each, gold sets for women relatives in the in-laws' family, a Rado watch and 30 suits for women were sought. The case was registered at Sector 34 police station.
While submitting his bail application in a local court, Gill had said he would hand over all the valuables to the victim's kin which they said he sought from them.
