Titans in charge v Knights

Bloemfontein - Rowan Richards recorded his eighth five-wicket haul in first-class cricket as the Titans rolled the Knights over on day two of the Sunfoil Series encounter at Chevrolet Park on Friday.

Richards returned the superb figures of 5-38 as the Knights were bowled out for 185 in response to the Titans’ first innings total of 366.

Heino Kuhn backed up his century in that innings with 44 in the second dig as the Titans moved to 115/3 to extend their lead over the Knights to 296.

The Knights’ brightest moment of the day happened in just the second over, as Malusi Siboto struck twice to record figures of 3-58 and ensure that the Titans added just two runs to their overnight total of 364/8.

It was all downhill for the hosts, thereafter, as Richards trapped Gihahn Cloete lbw in his first over and Marchant de Lange removed Gerhardt Abrahams for a duck in the next over.

Richards went on to have Rudi Second caught behind and trap Pite van Biljon lbw, before David Wiese dismissed Obus Pienaar as the Knights slumped to 54/5.

Reeza Hendricks survived the carnage and found a willing partner in Werner Coetsee, who stuck around in a 65-run stand that was eventually ended when the captain was run out.

Hendricks was the seventh wicket to fall as he was trapped lbw for 64, and Siboto’s 40 was the only score of note in the lower order as Richards wrapped things up.

The Knights bowlers were able to chip away at the Titans in their second dig, but Farhaan Behardien (21 not out) and Roelof van der Merwe (18 not out) will return to the crease on Saturday with the opportunity to set a stiff target.
