A change of tactic: Check conversion to avoid re-conversion

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat will be the chief guest at the event scheduled to be held at the Japanese Park Sunday.

As the controversy over the ‘re-conversion’ efforts by RSS affiliated groups heats up, the saffron brigade has decided to change tactics. Hindu outfits will now aggressively try to prevent conversion in the first place.

The VHP-affiliate Srihari Satsang Samiti, that formed the “Vanwasi Raksha Parivar Yojana” and has been working for seven years, is now the prime organisation to prevent conversion by reaching out to tribals, Dalits and other marginalised groups.

In wake of this, it is for the first time that Delhi will host the ‘Vanwasi Raksha Parivaar Kumbh 2014’.

Asked why Delhi, convenor Murali Lal Agarwala said, “We have contributors in Delhi. There are 20,000 families here who contribute Rs 2,500 per year. All have been invited to the programme.”

Festive offer

A senior RSS leader said it is important to reach marginalised villages before the Christian missionaries. “If we reach them and help government schemes reach their villages then these tribals will not convert to Christianity. The effort is to make them aware of their culture and prevent them from various ‘vyasans’”.

The introduction of the programme reads: “Under this scheme contribution of Rs 2,500 helps us adopt one tribal village and help protect the village from religious conversions, alcoholism, drug addiction, terrorism and prevents them from turning into Maoists.”
