Wawa Joins Efforts to Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful

WAWA, Pa. — Wawa Inc. is taking steps to keep Pennsylvania beautiful.

The retailer is the latest sponsor of the 2015 Great American Cleanup of PA, the annual signature event of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, according to NorthCentralPA.com.

"At Wawa, we are committed to continuously improving how we are working to protect our environment," said Richard Wood, director of sustainability and government relations. "We believe our partnership with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful will build on this commitment and further our efforts to be good stewards and improve our communities."

Wawa joins a roster of other well-known names as 2015 event supporters, including Giant Eagle Inc., Giant Food Stores Inc., and Wegmans Food Markets. Other supporters include the Department of Environmental Protection, PennDOT, PA Waste Industries Association, the PA Food Merchants Association, Weis Markets Inc., Waste Management, Republic Services, Steel Recycling Institute and the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority, 

"Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and Wawa share the goal of promoting a sustainable environment and livable communities. The Great American Cleanup empowers citizens to do that locally. We are excited to count Wawa as a Great American Cleanup of PA supporter," said Shannon Reiter, president of Keep PA Beautiful.

The 2015 Great American Cleanup of PA will run from March 1 to May 31. Registered events can get trash bags, gloves and safety vests from PennDOT district offices, as supplies last. Events run the gamut from litter cleanups, illegal dump cleanups, beautification projects, special collections and educational events.

Wawa owns and operates 657 convenience stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and central Florida.
