The state government on Friday avoided discussion on a private member’s bill related to separate statehood for Vidarbha in the state legislative assembly.
Congress (MLA) Vijay Wadettiwar had mooted a private member’s bill for debate on according separate statehood to Vidarbha.
However, minister for parliamentary affairs Girish Bapat said, “As there were several important issues to be discussed and completed it would have been difficult to take up the issue for discussion on Friday.”
Waddetiwar, who hails from Vidarbha, sought to know why the issue, which was to be listed for discussion, was not taken on agenda. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis intervened to explain, “ There was no question of disallowing any discussion on the matter. The issue will be taken up later.”
