Gloucestershire police in electric bicycle trial

Neighbourhood policing in parts of Gloucestershire will be taking to two wheels after the county's police force took charge of three electric bikes.

Stroud has been given two A2B Hybrid/24 models as part of the pilot scheme, while Dursley has one.

Police and Crime Commissioner Martin Surl said officers would be able to travel "quickly and economically" around the local area.

The £5,250 initiative could be extended to other areas if successful.

"They are an efficient and eco-friendly way to patrol a large geographical area, ensuring that police staff remain a visible and reassuring presence in our communities," added Mr Surl.

"I hope they will make life a little easier for our PCSOs as they cycle around the hilly Stroud locality."

The e-bikes have lithium batteries and a range of up to 70km (40 miles), with a top speed of 25km/h (15.5mph).
