State Duma ratifies Uzbek-Russian agreement on irradiated fuel

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- State Duma of Russia ratified an agreement between the Government of Russia and the Government of Uzbekistan on cooperation on transfer of irradiated fuel from Uzbek research reactor INN-3M to Russia.
The agreement envisages that Uzbekistan and Russia will cooperate to transfer irradiated fuel from Uzbek plant Foton to Russia.
Currently, there is irradiated fuel at nuclear fuel reactor IIN-3M of Foton enterprise, located in Tashkent suburb. The Russia will transfer about 30 liters of fuel, which consists of about 5 kg of uranium of 90% enrichment.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov recommended to pass the draft law on ratification, which will help to nuclear non-profilation.
Deputy director of Rosatom Nikolai Spasskiy said that the fuel will be transferred from unique research reactor to Mayak plant, which has unique technology on utilization of fuel. He said there will be no harm to nature. He said that Russia is only state, which can carry out such operation.
Russia and Uzbeistan signed the agreement on cooperation on transfer of irradiated fuel from Uzbek research reactor INN-3M to Russia on 9 April 2014 in Moscow.
