Lynn man allegedly punched 70-year-old taxi driver

A drunken Lynn man allegedly punched a taxi driver in the face, giving him a bloody nose, at the Wonderland MBTA station Thursday morning, Transit Police said.

James Rogers, 52, hopped into the back seat of a taxi waiting at the station at about 10:55 a.m., Transit Police said in a statement. The victim told police that Rogers began to mumble incoherently when asked to repeat where he wanted to be driven to. Rogers, apparently intoxicated, began verbally berating and insulting the driver, a 70-year-old man, police said.

The driver told Rogers he would need to find another means of transportation and asked him to get out. In response, Rogers allegedly got out, opened the front passenger door, punched the driver in the face, and fled, police said.

Revere and Transit Police found Rogers less than a quarter-mile away, in the 1300 block of North Shore Road. He was arrested and charged with assault and battery on an elderly person. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Chelsea District Court Friday.
