Our Chief drove the Datsun GO+ MPV this week on the mountainous roads of Rishikesh and while his detailed report gets LIVE, let me inform you that Nissan India intends to launch this vehicle next month and we have a good sniff that the prices will hover around Rs 4 Lakhs!
Now THAT is something that will certainly worry a lot of ‘regular’ hatchbacks in the 3.5 to 5 lakh rupee bracket. We did inform our readers earlier that though the GO+ is being pegged as a 7-seater by Datsun, the third row of seats can at best be used by two children who tell their age in single digits…
But if you look at the GO+ as a five-seater with enormous boot space, it suddenly becomes a super-attractive proposition! Yes, the last row can be folded to generate a lot of space for your luggage and if you plan on moving house you can flip the second row as well to become an instant packers & movers person!
The 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol won’t disappoint too as it offers a decent 69 PS of peak power and 105 Nm of maximum torque. I hear that the company has remapped the engine to offer a more linear torque curve than its hatch sibling. Plus, Go+ is only about 38-39 kgs heavier than the GO hatchback, so the engine doesn’t even feel the.
Launch date of the car has not been finalized yet by the company but they are firming up on some date within the month of January 2015. It all looks good at the outset, and we’ll tell you about the car in detail in our upcoming review. Watch this space!
