The Hero MotoCorp Splendor reclaimed its position from a gutsy Activa as the top-selling model in India some time back. For the month of November it wins the No.1 spot with authority yet again. An obstinate Honda Activa, which has consistently given the legendary commuter motorcycle sleepless nights month after month, still follows closely on its heels. The Splendor crossed the 2 lakh mark, garnering a total sales number of 2.04 lakh units. Those numbers may be big, but the brand hasn’t sold in as many numbers as it sold in the previous months. On the other hand, the Activa having sold 1.92 lakh examples added about 15000 units to its monthly number over October 14.
While Honda is fighting tooth and nail with Hero MotorCorp for the top selling model, the gap widens between the two companies as you move slightly down the ladder. Claiming the 3rd and 4th spots for the largest monthly sales are Hero Motocorp’s HF Deluxe and Passion motorcycles, having sold about 97,000 and 92,000 units respectively. The fifth spot is lapped up by the Honda CB Shine with close to 67,000 units sold.
None of Bajaj Auto or TVS models figure in the top 5 positions. The 6th entry in the list is TVS MOPED. The two stroke 50cc gearless moped offering by the South Indian bike maker is quite popular down south. Honda’s Dream series of commuter motorcycles, followed by Hero Glamour complete the top 8 positions. The last two spots are taken by Bajaj Pulsar and Discover respectively with 48,000 and 43,000 sales respectively. So while the TVS moped taking the 6th spot may be encouraging for the Hosur based two-wheeler maker, but none of its mainstream motorcycles or scooters featuring in the top 10 list don’t sound very promising.
