Cape Town - Fabian Delph has been tipped to replace Steven Gerrard as Liverpool head the race for the Aston Villa midfield ace.
According to the Daily Mirror, Brendon Rodgers has been frequently playing Gerrard off the bench as the 34-year-old reaches the end of his career.
Gerrard might also have to look for a new club as his current deal expires at the end of June next year.
Villa boss, Paul Lambert, has reportedly sent scouts to look for a new defender, midfielder and striker as Ron Vlaar and Christian Benteke could be sold as well.
Delph and Gerrard share the same agent, Struan Marshall, which could pave the way for the deal to happen smoothly.
Marshall is also Stuart Downing’s agent and took the former Villa winger to Anfield in 2011.
Reports suggest that Villa have offered Delph a new contract but the 25-year-old has not inked the new deal.
