Former Madison (Miss.) Central baseball player and 2010 MLB first round pick Ryan Bolden was shot to death Wednesday night, FOX 5 in Atlanta reported.

Bolden, 23, was killed in an incident that began with children fighting over candy. Violence erupted when adults became involved, according to the report. Police have not identified the shooter.

Bolden was visiting a friend at the complex, police said.

The Los Angeles Angels selected Bolden with the 40th overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft. The outfielder signed with Ole Miss, but went pro instead. He hit .347 with 8 home runs and 30 RBI as Madison Central won the 2010 6A State Championship.

Bolden played four seasons with the Angels organization. He had 2 HRs, 35 RBI, and 21 steals in the Arizona League. Bolden played seven games with the Orem Owlz in the Pioneer League in 2013. Bolden left the organization because of back problems.
