www.chinatrucks.com: On December 17th, 2014, Volvo Trucks assisted Deppon Logistics driver Mr. Sun Honglin to accomplish his dream of donating books to underprivileged children. Volvo Trucks’ representatives along with Mr. Sun, traveled from Beijing to Huang Gui Elementary School in Foshan city in Guangzhou, where, through the charity program The Library Project, they donated over one thousand children’s books to the school.

Mr. Sun was able to realize his personal dream by participating in the Volvo Trucks China Dream Program earlier this year. The program is part of the public driver training carried out by Volvo Trucks for many years. The training is available to all truck drivers and it provides them with a chance to learn about safe and fuel efficient driving and improve the skills; the program even connects drivers with logistics companies for job opportunities. Moreover, the uniqueness of this program is that it encourages drivers to share their personal dreams that would be possible to realize through joint cooperation with Volvo Trucks.

Mr. Sun, a truck driver for Deppon Chengde Logistics Company, was extremely grateful to receive the support from Volvo Trucks through the China Dream Program. Furthermore, he was overwhelmed with happiness for being able to visit the Huang Gui School for the donation ceremony and interact with the children in person. Mr. Sun grew up in a poor area with inadequate educational facilities, which led him to drop out of school and start working at very young age. This is one of Mr. Sun’s biggest regrets and he had always hoped to help children in underprivileged areas receive a better education. He believes that no matter where children live, they all deserve the same good educational foundation and opportunities.

Huaji County, where the school is located, is in the Northwest region of Guangdong Province, north of Zhaoqing City and upstream of the Sujiang River. All four sides of Huaji are surrounded by mountains. The facilities and teaching resources at the Huang are unable to provide a proper educational environment for the children. The Huang Gui Elementary School used to be supported by Project Hope, a Chinese public service project organized by the China Youth Development Foundation (CYDF) and the Communist Youth League (CYL) Central Committee.

Two special guests joined the donation ceremony, Mr. Zhao Shunqiang, General Manager of Beijing Zhongyi Express Logistics Company, and Mr. Hao Rongbin, representative of Beijing Anhua Logistics Company. They both attended the Volvo Trucks’ China Dream Program award ceremony in August, and were moved that Volvo Trucks would be assisting Mr. Sun with the donation to the impoverished children, and immediately expressed the willingness to become involved in Volvo Trucks’ charity programs as proponents. After interacting with the students in the Huanggui School, Mr. Zhao Shunqiang of Beijing Zhongyi Express Logistics Company enthusiastically expressed, “After personally visiting this impoverished region, I discovered that the school facilities were even worse than I could have imagined. When I saw the children reading the donated books, I could tell that they are very eager to learn. Being able to help them makes me very happy. I’m very grateful that Volvo Trucks is able to organize these types of programs and invite us and other companies to take part.”
