Forced to part, couple seeks protection
COIMBATORE: A couple belonging to different religions was forcibly separated by their parents with the help of some anti-social elements. The daughter of a leading city businessman was forcibly separated from her husband whom she had eloped with and married on December 3.
On the pretext of reaching a compromise, the couple was asked to meet with the girl's parents, when a group of gangsters led by Al -Umma founder SA Basha's son Siddiq Ali, allegedly kidnapped her and handed her over to her parents.
She was forcibly confined by her parents since December 5 but managed to escape on Wednesday night and sought police protection.
The couple N Mohamed Mukthar, 24, a choreographer at a dance school in RS Puram met Sneha A Jain, daughter of Ashok Jain, at the dance school and fell in love.
On December 3, they got married at Periyar Padippakam in Gandhipuram. They approached the all women police station (central) in Gandhipuram seeking protection. Their family members had gathered at the station and all parties were hoping to settle the matter amicably.
The parties subsequently met at a lawyer's office in Gopalapuram to resolve the issue. The couple's advocate MV Vijayaragavan requested the family not to disturb the newlyweds. While they were in discussions, Siddiq Ali and his friends forced the couple into a car. "We were taken to Siddiq's friend Mustafa's house. We stayed the night there. When we tried to escape the following day, we were stopped by the gangsters who assaulted Mohamed," said Sneha. They threatened to kill Mohamed's parents. On December 5, the couple was forced to separate and Sneha was returned to her parents. On Wednesday night, Sneha escaped from her home.

By this time, Sneha's father filed a 'girl missing' complaint with the Rathinapuri police.
"I was determined to continue my life with Mohamed so I approached deputy commissioner of police Pravesh Kumar, seeking protection from my family," said Sneha. Mohamed Mukthar said that some people had approached him, promising him lakhs of rupees if he separated from Sneha. But he refused to do so.
Meanwhile a detailed massage spread various people through whatsapp that the couple was separated and an outfit received Rs 3 crore from the family for separating them.
At 4pm on Thursday, the couple appeared before the deputy commissioner of police Pravesh Kumar. Later, when Sneha was produced before the judicial magistrate court -II, she reiterated that she wanted to live with Mohamed Muktar. She had converted to Muslim and even changed her name to Shyna Fatima. On Friday, lawyer Vijayaragavan lodged a complaint with Race Course police station against Siddiq Ali, Asraf and ten others. The police registered an FIR against them for unlawful assembly, trespass, kidnapping and criminal intimidation.
Further investigations are on.
