A pair of game-worn (and quite beautiful, I must say) Michael Jordan Converse sneakers have sold for over $33,000 at auction, says ESPN’s Darren Rovell.

Jordan wore Converse during his days at the University of North Carolina before signing his legendary deal with Nike.

From Grey Flannel Auctions:

The sneakers show great signs of use with creasing throughout and signs of wear towards the front of the sneakers and near the ankle area. These sneakers are properly tagged, were presented to us as game-used during Jordan’s freshman year at UNC and in our opinion show excellent use. Our consignor was a high school teammate of Jordan and visited Jordan during his freshman year at UNC. There is a newspaper article documenting the event.

Only $33,000 for a pair of shoes. Easy spend. What else was the buyer going to get? Like an SUV or something? SUVs are for nerds.

UPDATE: There’s some controversy as to whether or not Jordan ever wore these shoes.
