An accountant of a private auto firm was shot at thrice by a trio who snatched Rs. 7.3 lakh from him at Pillagumpe Industrial Estate, Hoskote on Thursday afternoon. The accountant, Veerendra Gupta (24), is in fighting for survival in a private hospital.
Gupta, from Uttar Pradesh, had been working with the firm for six months. He resides at Kadugodi. He had been to State Bank of India at Hoskote with a colleague Manjunath in a car on Thursday afternoon. They withdrew Rs. 7.3 lakh from the bank around 1:45 pm and left in the car.
They reached the factory around 3.45 p.m. As Gupta got down in front of the gate, a man on a bike tried to snatch the bag containing the money. When Gupta resisted, another man in a different bike opened fire and shot thrice. The attackers took the bag and sped away.
Gupta sustained injuries in his upper chest, thigh and back. He also suffered multiple fractures in the ribs. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and later to a private hospital. Police sources said that he was operated on; some pellets removed.
B. Ramesh, Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru Rural district said that the bullets came from a .32 mm pistol. He said that there was a CCTV camera at the gate, but it was not functioning. He added that police are investigating.
