Priya Bapat is truly in a happy space since all her films have always been ‘different’. She bagged the Screen award for her role of a young widow in Kaksparsh, she was cast opposite her husband Umesh Kamat in the love story Time Please and now Happy Journey that released on November 28 is being talked about.
Talking about Happy Journey, Priya says, “I have never seen a concept like this ever before. I do not remember a film based only on the brother and sister relationship in Marathi films except for Maherchi Saadi years ago. In Happy Journey, they are more than siblings, they are very close and thick friends. They are a very today’s generation. We have always seen a brother saving his sister and fighting for her and taking care of her. Here it is not like that. The film is all about transformation, changing as per the time and living every moment of it.”
For the actress, selecting roles is not an easy task as she does not accept everything that comes her way. “I always look for roles that have not been done before. It is very cliched when an actor says ‘I want to do something different’ but when I look back, Kaksparsh was truly and completely a different genre, Time Please was a today’s film and now Happy Journey, is on a different level altogether,” says the actress adding that for her what she gets to play is more important than what relationship she is playing. “It is also not about the length but the importance of what I get to do. Another biggest reason for choosing Happy Journey was that it was a Sachin Kundalkar and Atul Kulkarni film,” she beams.
Doing a film with Atul Kulkarni and Sachin Kundalkar (director) was a very enriching experience, she says while explaining the reason. “The two of them have a very disciplined working style. Moreover this was a refreshing film. We did a workshop of two days before going on floors. It was indeed happy journey working with them,” says Priya who could identity with the character of Janki, because she was very much like her.
The actress has three offers on hand but they are still in the reading and finalising stages and hence she did not reveal anything much about the projects though she is busy presently shooting in Malwan.

Away from the national capital’s courtroom where the case against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is playing out, two key figures embroiled in the excise policy case – four-time MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy and his son Raghava Magunta Reddy – are busy campaigning for BJP ally Telugu Desam Party (TDP)
