Actor Jagathy gets mishap compensation

Two-and-a-half years after he met with a crippling road accident that cut short his career, veteran Malayalam film actor Jagathy Sreekumar was awarded Rs.5.90 crore by a private insurance company as compensation.
The documents regarding the compensation was handed over to the wheelchair-bound actor at his Thiruvananthapuram residence by top officials of the insurance company.
Jagathy met with a major road accident while travelling in a car at Thenhippalam near Kozhikode in March 2012, when he was on his way to a shooting location at Kodagu in Karnataka.
This followed prolonged treatment in hospitals in Kozhikode and Vellore in Tamil Nadu. The mishap cut short the career of the 63-year-old actor, who stole hearts of Malayalis through his comedy and character roles. He has acted in over 1500 films and was considered a vital ingredient to box-office success since the 1980s.
Though he recovered from the injuries, he has since then been confined to his home moving on a wheel-chair.
