In a bid to strengthen ties between Japan and India by promoting Japanese films, film-maker Subhash Ghai inaugrated the Japan Film Festival India, 2014 at Inorbit Mall in Mumbai. Apart from introducing Indians to Japanese cinema, the festival also promotes Japan as a potential destination that Indian film-makers can shoot their films in.“Rajinikant films spelt great success in Japan and he has a cult following there. In more recent times films like English Vinglish, 3 Idiots and others have done extremely well,” said Mr. Palash Bannerjee, MD K House India, the festival organiser,  as he spoke about what led to the birth of this idea. There are also plans to hold an Indian Film Festival in Japan.
