Siddharth Nigam, who played the young Aamir Khan in Dhoom3, will once again play a young version of a character on the small screen. Although, there is no official announcement by Colors about when Ashoka will go on air, the buzz is that it will start from January end next year. The makers have already started shooting certain portions of the series. “I am playing the Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat. Currently, I am training and doing research for my role, but I am really excited about it,” says Nigam. This mythological retelling will showcase the journey and life time of Emperor Ashoka, from his rise to power to his state of penance after the gory blood-bath in the historical battle of Kalinga that made him give up war to embrace Buddhism. Actor Sumit Kaul, who played the cunning yet sweet character of Salman in Vishal Bharadwaj’s Haider, will be seen playing a negative character in the historical show Ashoka. According to sources, Sumit will be seen as Juftin, son of Chandragupta Maurya and Helena, who is step uncle of Ashoka. Sources also confirms the character of Juftin will have many layers and also have a stylish light stubble look. The character is half Greek and he has already started shooting for the same.The series also sees Pallavi Subhash playing Ashoka’s mother in the serial.
