Personally which is your favourite genre?

We don’t have any personal favourite genre, our music choices are 70mm and larger than life. Though we are inclined to Bollywood music, we like to experiment a lot and that’s how we have been trained; we can adopt any genre we want. We believe in jamming and that’s how we come up with songs.

How did you come up with the idea of a Superman song?

Actually, I have written the lyrics of the song as well. I have recently started writing and taking credit for it too. We wanted to add some humour to our music, we are wacky and often joke around, so we thought why not have a little fun with the music, as well. We wanted to make a humorous song and give it a desi touch. So, one day I was jamming and I thought of these lyrics: Ek bata doon aap se. Nahi darta kisi ke baap se. Ja mere naam ke bill faad le… Arey ja mere naam ke bill faad. Jo ukhaadna, ukhaad le.. Main toh Superman, Salman ka fan, Jo leve panga, kar dun maa-bhan.’ When I told Wajid bhai about it, he was amazed and asked, “What? you have written this?” When I initially made it, I thought of telling Wajid to sing it and then gifting it to Salman bhai, but we never imagined using it in a film! Then, one fine day, without any cue, Wajid sung it to Boney Kapoor and Arjun, who loved it and that’s how it made it to Tevar’s soundtrack. Arjun is like a younger brother and when it is family, you work extra hard and that’s how we composed it—with double the zeal.

This song also features the words Salman ka fan. Is it a tribute to him?

Festive offer

Salman is Bollywood’s superman. The song is a gift for Salman bhai and all his fans, you can also call it a birthday gift, but not a tribute because that implies something entirely different. It was done as a respectable genre and there was a time when we only used to work with Salman Khan. We worked with him when he was only just another actor for people, but for us, he was a superstar from the beginning. He was born a superstar, but people realised it later. So, by working with him over the years, we have developed a bond with him and the song was purely out of love for him. He is family to us.

Who else are you both close with?

We are close to many people in the industry. The industry is like a family for us. Recently, we had a few additions to our family—Varun Dhawan and Tiger Shroff are like brothers to us. We are also great friends with Aditya Roy Kapur. Pulkit Samrat is also close to us and I see a lot of potential in him.

What kind of instruments did you use to compose the Main hu Superman track ?

We use so many instruments that we don’t even remember which ones we’ve used. We just compose— the tune strikes us and we just go with the flow. We have a team with whom we have been working for so many years and we work together as a family.

What is the most bizarre instrument you have used to compose a song?

We are the acoustic musician boys and have used tonnes of bizarre instruments. We have even used a Thai instrument in one of our songs. I feel old classical instruments have an edge over other instruments as they are more evocative.

How did the Radha Nachegi song come along and how was that composed?

It’s either that Sonakshi is lucky for us, or we are lucky for Sonakshi, as whenever we team up, our songs and films become a rage. She performs solo in Radha Nachegi and director Amit Sharma wanted to picturise it in a certain way. We did just that, followed his brief and the song has turned out very well.

Is there pressure on you to always come up with something new ?

There is no pressure on us. Those who feel the pressure don’t make any progress. We believe in producing something different, if you see our track record, we haven’t ever been repetitive as we always challenge ourselves to compose fresh tracks.

Tell us one thing that inspires you both.

We get inspired from our family, by the people around us, from the climate, by looking at beautiful colors, by travelling, it’s all over the world. The challenges we pose to ourselves, the humor and the fun we have are integral—Our lows also inspire us and result in better work.

How do Sajid and Wajid function?

Wajid is my younger brother, he is my Shehzada. Everything I do is only for him and we effortlessly work in tandem.

What are your future projects that you have lined up?

Presently we are working on Dolly ki Dolli. There are other films as well, but it’s to early to talk about them.
