MMRDA plan for taller buildings in BKC, Wadala shot down

MUMBAI: An MMRDA plan to earn additional revenue by offering greater vertical construction potential on its lands has not met with success as the civil aviation ministry has refused to relax height restrictions in BKC and Wadala.
Both BKC and Wadala fall within a 4-km radius from the airport. The MMRDA had toyed with the idea of seeking a height relaxation after some officials suggested that radars can be built atop the Eastern Freeway at Panjrapol.
“These radars would have ensured that taller buildings in BKC and Wadala would not hinder the signal,” an official said. “The civil aviation ministry indicated that this was not a viable option, as result of which we will restrict the height of buildings to 80 metres.”
The financial district of BKC has a global FSI of 4.
The MMRDA has appointed a consortium led by Edifice Consultant Pvt Ltd to prepare the master plan for its land stock in Wadala.
