Dundee United’s Paul Paton and Queen of the South's Andy Dowie have been banned for two games by the Scottish Football Association.

Paton was charged with spitting on Aberdeen's Jonny Hayes during the Scottish Premiership game last weekend, while Dowie was charged with stamping during their recent 2-0 win over Rangers in the Scottish Championship.

Paton was found guilty of the action in Saturday's match despite Hayes contending on social media that in his opinion his opponent was innocent; he will now miss the home game against Celtic and the trip to St Johnstone.

The midfielder was booked for his challenge on Hayes when the incident happened.

After contesting the suspension, the ban was upheld at a tribunal at Hampden Park, where Dowie's two-game ban was also confirmed; he will sit out Queen's Christmas fixtures against Cowdenbeath and Alloa.
