Toyota consolidating seat production as competition mounts

NAGOYA -- Toyota will bring the seat-making operations of four units under one roof as early as 2016 to better compete against U.S. and European rivals.

Aisin Seiki, Shiroki and Toyota Auto Body, which currently make electric components, seat recliners and seat frames, respectively, will merge these operations with Toyota Boshoku, a unit established in 2004 that specializes in seat production.
