The terrific trailer of Ugly must have mesmerized you. Kashyap's only requirement to pull off a film of that potential was to get raw actors and he found a tremendous one in Rahul Bhatt, who plays one of the pivotal characters in the film.
Rahul, for whom Ugly was a very crucial project, was delayed by almost a year and more. Rahul bravely manages to sum up his predicament by saying, "It was very disturbing that a film which was getting such rave reviews around the world from Cannes to the New York Film Festival, was facing such issues back home."

A lot went emotionally into playing the character he did.
It was emotionally draining and to get into the skin of it, the actor had to turn an insomniac we hear. He elucidates, "While working on this film, I did not sleep at all. My character needed that wired look and dark circles. All the dark circles in the film were real dark circles. I absolutely did not get to sleep while shooting for this film for 3 months. I was shooting for 2 hours tops everyday. It was a very heavy film and emotionally this movie was extremely taxing. It took a toll on everyone, including Anurag. The film is very emotional, very personal, very intense. It was a very difficult film to shoot which it might not seem by the look of it. We really wanted to get the nuances right. We wanted to go into the depth of things and feel the pain and frustration of these characters."
In the sprawling lawns of Phantom's office in suburban Mumbai, an upbeat Anurag joins in to banter about it and adds, "I don't let my actors sleep. I give them alcohol to drink instead of food and by the end of it they want to tear their head apart. That's how ruthless I am. I wanted real dark circles and I wouldn't let Rahul catch a wink of sleep for days!"
Ugly is finally up for release on December 26, 2014 and the team is doing their best bit at promoting the movie in a focused, channelized way.
